Humanity is Harming Itself

Humans are getting caught up in being the best and having the lead on others that they forget we are in this together. People are stopping to be selfless. There are plenty of people being competitive for wealth and advancement, while other people are suffering. Once we use material things up, we will be lost and won’t know what to do. We are forgetting about others and only worry about ourselves. We are too concerned with being better than others and because of this, humanity is harming itself.

In most situations, we don’t care if things in life are false. We will be satisfied with everything as long as it goes the way we want. We stop digging deeper to find the truth because we stop caring. We would rather be blinded by challenges than have to face them. In the Remember the Titans information, we found most of the information to be false. The movie was based on false information. The main theme of the movie was racism. We found that in real life, it wasn’t nearly as big of issue as it was portrayed. We chose to believe the movie is the truth because we don’t want to dig deeper. We would rather believe in false, than in real information that might disappoint us.

People are also beginning to harm themselves. Gerry Bertier is a good example of this. He became caught up in his football career and he ruined it for himself. He won a game, went out to a party, and got paralyzed. He made a bad decision and he had to deal with the consequences. He was on his way to the pro league and he ruined it for himself.

Another example of self destructive behavior was the debate. The boy’s team proved that humans are very capable of ruining things for themselves. They didn’t listen to the opposing team or each other, and contradicted themselves many times. The boys lost the debate because they failed to show constructive behavior.

Humanity is becoming worse and worse as the years go on. The poem, “5 ways to kill a man”, proves this. It talks about the lengths people used to go through to kill others. Nowadays, you don’t have to do anything because people are making it easier to ruin themselves.

People have stopped being selfless and caring. In the story “One Mile of Ice”, Pete takes Ralph’s toque as Ralph is dying. Pete figured that he should do anything to save himself. He wasn’t concerned with the fact that his brother in law was frozen. He only cared about saving himself.

Nature and humanity are in a constant fight with each other. The man in the water lost his battle to nature. He may be considered a hero because he saved others before himself. He may have done his best to help others, but he was the only one who was willing to be selfless. Everyone else jumped at the opportunity to be saved first. They didn’t care if the man died because he put them first. This proves to me that humanity is going downhill.

Although humans are constantly faced with challenges, they prove to continuously be the cause of most of these problems. People, in the long run, are causing problems for themselves. We are too concerned with being the best, and having a lead on others, that we are causing harm to humanity. We need to start living our lives to our full potential. We need to dig deeper for the truth, and overcome the challenges that we face.
